Horeb - Samson Raphael Hirsch 1st Edition Printed 1837

This is a unique 1st Edition Sefer Book known as Horeb חורב  printed in 1837 Altona Germany and written by the famous Rabbi Dr Samson Raphael Hirsch.

In 1830 Rabbi Hirsch was elected Chief Rabbi (Landesrabbiner) of the principality of Oldenburg. During this period he wrote his Neunzehn Briefe über Judenthum, (Nineteen Letters on Judaism) which were published, under the pseudonym of "Ben Usiel" (or "Uziel"), at Altona in 1836. This work made a profound impression in German Jewish circles because it was something new — a brilliant, intellectual presentation of Orthodix Judaism in classic German, and a fearless, uncompromising defense of all ultra orthodox Torah institutions and ordinances.

In 1837 Rabbi Hirsch published, as a necessary concomitant of the Letters, his Horeb, oder Versuche über Jissroel's Pflichten in der Zerstreuung, which is a text-book on Judaism for educated Jewish youth. In fact, he wrote Horeb first, but his publishers doubted that a work defending traditional Judaism would find a market in those times, when reform was in vogue.

This Sefer Book  is the "the Letters, his Horeb, oder Versuche über Jissroel's Pflichten in der Zerstreuung," in good condition considering its age. All the print and pages are whole there is a total of 785 pages .

The sefer consists of a total of 785 pages with a black hard cover ( not the original -  which seems like it was rebound in the 1920's).  It weighs  650 grams and is 20cm x 12.5cm x 4cm . As seen from photos , it is in good  condition, all the words are in clear black print  and is printed on a thick german paper, the  pages are discoloured yellow-  brown, with patches of brown on some pages, even so ALL thewords are very clear in black ink in old gothic style German with some hebrew words .
